Clarifications from the Government
Firstly, it’s important to clarify that the e-bike scheme, launched by the Punjab government under the supervision of Maryam Nawaz, was originally set to end on April 29. However, the deadline for registration was extended to May 5, allowing more students to apply. Many students had applied for the scheme, which promised 20,000 e-bikes to be distributed on an interest-free easy installment basis, with the support of the Bank of Punjab. Students could easily register at the Bank of Punjab and get their e-bikes with a monthly installment of 5000 rupees. Recently, rumors surfaced claiming that the Punjab government has canceled the e-bike scheme. I want to assure you that these rumors are false. The government has not canceled the scheme. Instead, it has made some modifications. Initially, 1,000 electric bikes and 19,000 motorbikes were to be distributed. However, due to issues with the electric bike batteries and parts, the government has decided to provide petrol bikes instead. The registration deadline has been extended, and 20,000 petrol bikes will now be distributed to students across five cities in Punjab. Both male and female students are eligible to apply for these bikes.

The Punjab government has received a total of 9491 registrations, with 7264 applications specifically for petrol bikes. The total number of applications received is 15,270. Despite the ongoing rumors on social media, the e-bike scheme has not been canceled. The first phase will see the distribution of 20,000 petrol bikes to students, and the registration process has already concluded.
