Punjab Chief Minister Announces Package for Farmers


Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced a historic package aimed at supporting farmers in the region. This comprehensive package includes initiatives such as the Punjab Kissan Bank, the Green Tractor Scheme, local manufacturing of harvesters and agricultural tools, and the Oil Seed Promotion Program.

Key Decisions

During a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, significant decisions regarding the ‘Kissan Package’ were made:

Establishment of Punjab Kissan Bank: A Punjab Kissan Bank will be established to provide farmers with loans on favorable terms.

CM Punjab Green Tractor Scheme: Approval has been granted for the CM Punjab Green Tractor Scheme, which aims to provide subsidies to farmers for tractor purchases.

Subsidy Allocation: Instead of a mere Rs. 6 lakh subsidy on a tractor, the chief minister has directed to provide a 70% subsidy on small tractors and a 50% subsidy on large tractors.

Expansion of Tractor Scheme: The number of tractors under the Punjab Green Tractor Scheme has been increased by 10,000, as proposed by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

Timeline for Implementation: CM Maryam Nawaz has instructed to complete the first phase of the Punjab Green Tractor Scheme within one year.

Eligibility Criteria: Farmers owning land from six acres to 50 acres will be eligible to apply for the Punjab Green Tractor Scheme.
